City of Seattle’s Electric Trucks Incentive Pilot

Updated: Nov 21, 2023

The Duwamish Valley, a hub of freight-related jobs and activities, hosts around 4,000 diesel drayage trucks that serve the Ports of Tacoma and Seattle. However, these trucks, despite their short-distance routes, are significant contributors to regional pollution.

City of Seattle’s investing in the future of clean transportation. Funding includes point-of-sale rebates for new electric vehicles operating in the Duwamish community. These incentives apply to Battery Electric Class 8 Tractor Trailer Trucks, covering a substantial 40% (up to $180,000) per truck, with a total of $1.7 million in funding available.

This opportunity is open to all current and new drayage fleet owners based in Washington State, serving the Port of Seattle, residing in the city of Seattle, or situated in the Duwamish Valley. Priority will be given to Independent owner-operators, small drayage fleets, and Women- and Minority-Owned businesses.

Electrifying diesel emissions is a top priority for the City of Seattle. They're answering the call from community-based organizations in the Duwamish Valley to address the critical issue of harmful diesel emissions in our neighborhood.

The constant operation of 4,000 diesel engines has been pouring pollution into the Duwamish Valley and adjacent communities for far too long. Neighborhoods like Beacon Hill, Georgetown, and South Park face higher air pollution levels and childhood asthma rates compared to other Seattle neighborhoods..
